Conway River: laugh a minute

Post by albundy »

Well, I'm surprised that you buggers haven't put photo's up of my submarine alter ego  What another excellent trip. Raining on the way in, not too deep, actually shallower then before but dirty. 5 trucks strong. We travelled down river to our usual camping spot and set up the tajmahal and the bonfire. On the way Matt displayed why he wasn't in the army, shot about "100" rounds and only wounded a few goats out of a herd of 10. Sent Rik over in his hilux ATV to find the "fresh meat" only to find a gorse forest. Can't remember many recoveries that afternoon, got ho hum so we found lots to play with, then we needed recovery. All were well and truly pissed by 10pm, and duly legless by 1am, some needing to"crash" before then. Next day we woke to Bill's sweet voice  making his ritualistic cup of tea. Cooked up a shit hot breaky and headed off. Wasn't too long before we started finding oursellllves in heaps of self inflicted shit :D Matt needed to make his tubed tyres tubeless as we had to slpit and reseat tyre beads. Rik's airlocker shat itself and even started finding the bottoms soft. And me, well I relly started looking for more and more challenging river crossings until I found the softest, deepest and swiftest spot all weekend. Good 8" flowing through the truck. Although the computer got wet and she died in the arse when submerged, like all good nissan's she started with a little encouragement once out and got me all the way home, albet a little lacking in power. Needed two trucks with winches to get me out of that on. Matt got stuck several times once down in the soft shit because of his skinny tyres, he even ended up with water inside. All in all a great weekend, even got to wash the inside of the truck.

lmao.. typical you Al, can you not be arsed to clean your truck out the conventional way rather than washing it in a river.. its much easier to use a vacum lol

sounds like you guys had plenty of fun, i also had fun that weekend up at hamner river with the new truck, nearly rolled it as the ground gave way underneth my back right wheel up the gorge on the left trying to turn around lol

Missed it too :? Watch the trip forum as Tim and I may have another similar trip up our sleeves for march. When was Rik doing 1"/hr Bill? That's what sucks about leading trips, you miss alot of the laughs behind you. Give us a gander tonite at the party will ya.The trip organiser has talked me into leading a trip down the Coway on june 10th I think, so may be a little more water in there be then, and I'll definitely be on 33'

The photo's do make the vehicles 'dentless :P ', don't look 'dentless' in the flesh tho :P :P , re:chick's dig body damage :!: , as for bush we head over to the west coast here in the south island a couple of times a year and those trees don't bend too easily compared to the hilux

Shit I forgot to mention that one Tim  I have two nice dents on my front left mudguard from a wee little tree on the westcoast from my last winching exercise there ie: blown clutch. The rest was down the bloody waimak, and not trees either, plan earth, solid as shit.

Hey Al just curious as to how your truck handles the water after being pretty wet a couple of times!! I see you have been able to keep driving albeit a bit thirstier or lacking power but what has it cost in terms of fixing the computers etc?

Just asking as I have done a few trips in my surf (the 3.0l V6 surf from the waimak trip last year) down here in queenstown now where there has been some pretty deep water and have been thinking of lifting the ECU's up by the rear view mirror in case i get in the same situation. Not too keen on getting stuck in the wops because of wet computers!!! Just interested on your thoughts about this with the petrol electrics etc. By the way nice project coming up with the SAS jealous would be an understatement
