Hilux chassis change

Post by Andy M »

I have a 1991 Hilux double cab 2.8

its a ln107 with the independant front.

I have been looking at my options lately wether to sell it and get a solid front axle vehicle.

But i like the ute to much and the hassle of selling it and then getting another one to the same stage is to much.

i want a hilux still and was wondering how hard it is to put my body and wellside onto another rolling hilux chassis with solid front?
nd are there issues with cert or anything

Or change mine from independant to solid front?

If anyone can help itd be great

cheers

I know all my gear is good. And dont want to change to another hilux risking getting a bet up truck.

Wisard2 has just done this conversion (IFS to beam axle), maybe worth having a chat to him....

Hey Andy, welcome to the site. Plenty of info on the site about doing a solid axle swap to your Toyota. If you are expecting to do a bit of harder 4wding or lift your truck fit bigger tyres etc, you are better to go for a solid axle swap on your vehicle as it allows you to modify the suspension and steering to make it better for off roading

Just done body swap on my 84 yn60 surf to a ln130 body. I rang the guy that did my cert for engine swap, lift etc and he said i do not have to get recert for it. Although if you are changing to keep the body to go to an old chassis you'd probably want to take the newer motor with you? which would require cert. I would say do solid axle swap then you can also set it up how you want it. I should have just sas'd the 130 now i look back at it.

He said that should be fine as long as it's been done by a ticketed welder.

yeh would be a eay as job from what youve said, all depends how much money ya got and skill, cheaper but need skill is sas your truck, bit more cash & less skills just buy a chasis with complete front end,or just complete rolling chasis nd swap the top over and have a spare rear end to keep or sell on to recover costs
