From what I'm told, if the seals are relatively new in the pump you will be fine, if not, use a fuel additive (moreys is supposedly good) to slow/stop the seal leak problem.
Otherwise, take the risk, and try to budget for a pump rebuild, which may be on the cards anyay for an older diesel motor.

Had the seals replaced in my pump a few months ago. I found a pool of diesel under the truck ( it comes out pretty quick) The pump was a rotary type on a 3b motor. It cost about $100 and was done with the pump still on the motor. A top plate gasket and some "o" rings.
