transmission/transfer oil

Post by wagonsnz »

i have just changed my manual transmission oil with Valvoline API GL-5 SAE 75W-90, which is recommended in the manual.
I have just checked the transfer case level, and it is low. Can I use the same oil for the transfer? The manual recommends API GL-4 or GL-5 SAE 80W or 90W hypoid gear oil for the transfer.

On the Valvoline container it says
"is recommended for manual gear boxes, hypoid differentials and transaxle equipped vehicles where an API GL-5 gear oil SAE 75W90 is recommended."

So basically I just need to know if it is ok to use this oil in the transfer as I have some leftover, or do I need to buy a seperate product? $$

Would appreciate any help or ideas

Cheers
