diff ratios

Post by new2zukes »

hi well i picked up a surf diff today to put in my suzuki and decided to check the ratios, i counted 2.5 turns of the d shaft to 1 turn of the wheel. the diff is lsd if this means anything so would this make the ratio 2.5:1 if so it sort of doesnt make sence as i thought surfs were like 4.3 ratios. hope someone can help.thanks

rip it out and count the teeth. i think there is a colour system as well for the pinion nuts. but not 100% on that. mine are 4.55 and have yellow on them. i think that 4.3 is blue but like i say not 100%

One wheel or two . One wheel and the diff is working , ie the spider gears are turning doubling the turns on the wheel . So you need to double the figure you get , ie 2.5 will be 5 etc . That is most likely a 4.88 , think that is a common size in surfs . Have to be acurate when counting the turns that way as a small error is multipled .

I think most petrol surfs/hiluxs are 4.88

hi this was a 2.4 turbo diesel, will pull it out when i need to mount the diff but i need the ratio to be 4.88 as the front diff is this, but if this diff is not that i can just put the head from the one thats in the truck to the one im putting in. if that makes any sence.
also as it is lsd i was wondering if the lsd bit will fit into a 1985 hilux front end the diff ratio for it is 4.88. thanks for info guys its much apreciated.
