Re Mounting 70 series PTO Winch

Post by Pete »

Hi all,

Am in the process of rebuilding a 70 MWB cruiser ( 1 truck out of 2). The winch is going to remounted further back on the new truck to get rid of the front porch.

I was thinking of replacing wire rope( its stuffed anyway) with a synthetic rope to help keep the weight down. Was looking at the "4wdbits" fairleads. It saybson their website to fit a fairlead thats narrower than the winch drum - makes sense - but what about the vertical position of the fairlead ? Should it align with the centre of the drum or the top of the drum ??

Any thoughts comments about using synthetic rope on the PTO ?

Cheers,

Pete

I have a 73 series with pto,I went with rope to get rid of some weight as the pto is so heavy, shit made a huge diffence,I set the fair lead up to go half way between centre of drum and top of drum as the truck is always on the piss when its stuck and helps keep some load on the drum so the rope doesn't slacken off. What did you do in the front to move winch back?,Cheers

Same shit different day :D :D :D

Hiya Ski,

Sounds good thanks - just got to see of i can afford the synthetic rope......

Haven't set it back yet - will be removing the air con core for more room and cutting back the front panel. We haven't sized it all up yet but theer should be some good gains in the aproach angle.

Cheers,

Pete

My radiator is good and have a good spare so will be sticking with it. I will be happy just to shift it back - anything has got to be better that it is now. I have the whole unit cable and all sitting on the garage floor I will strip the cable off and see if how much of the total the weight the cable is - that will help me make up my mind as to if i can afford the rope.... :|

Cheers,
Pete
