Lower North Island Trials Series??
Lower North Island Trials Series??
Hi
Not sure if this has been discussed before but have wondered for a while if there would be any interest in a series down this end of the island similar to the Laurie Sanson??
A few of our club members have mentioned that there used to be a series with clubs hosting a round but it died a natural death.
Before I look at taking something to the next step, just looking for level of interest.
Figure if we could say get 6 clubs to look at hosting a round then every couple of months there could be an event.
Have not thought about what rules etc, but figure courses based on trials (but a bit less risk of rolling to open up to more trucks and competitors).
Just a few thoughts while eating my toast.

There is usually 1 fun trial run after the national series which tends to be another trial but allows navigators and others to drive, the ones that tend to enter are the trialists, the tougher club trucks occasionally do the course, if it is run thru the rally season then the turnout would be less than off season, also the the trialists tend to be the ones who setup and run it.
the course would have to be virtually flat to get the shiney brigade out for a comp.

How about one that caters for the normal club trucks. similar to the mudplugs held down south. These are extremely popular and are often full, with normal club trucks. Trials enter as well but often do a much harder course.
three classes should cover most,
Class A:
one diff lock on either axle.
max tyre size 33"
no fiddles
Class B:
Road going tourers so WOF
Max tyre size 35"
dual lockers.
LWB get two re-alignments if course dictates it.
Class C: anything goes.

Re: Lower North Island Trials Series??
Why not run it under the same format/rules as Dr-PC is doing in the upper north Isl and then at the end of each season have a trial in the center of the island somewhere then the best of the best ( and everyone else
) can duel it out .
I know its all about fun and learning/pushing yourselves a bit but a little fun rivaly never hurt . Surely we are all grown up enough to play nicely

Re: Lower North Island Trials Series??
Hi guys,
Central Zone ran some Gymkhana events as a Series, hosted by CCVC, Tararua, Wairarapa, Manawatu, Levin, Hawkes Bay.
Each one ran the same format, each had to plan for road tyres to encourage non trials vehicles as a standard.
WOF & Registration was also a requirement.
There was a restricted "hazard" "public entry" - each event finished with the traditional Bar B Que at the end with net proceeds going to a Charity.
The Manawatu event was mind blowing - 197 entries at Mangatainoka.
Levin was held up at the old Tararua Trial site and CCVC was out at Kaitoke.
The secret of the success was the whole Series was organised at Zone level. (as all events should be)
It was suggested 14 months ago that "we" should run another Series as a specific fundraiser and I know that Wairarapa, Wanganui, Tararua, Hawkes Bay and with a little blackmail all the rest - would be really supportive.
Situations up here had not allowed further planning for a Memorial Gymkhana Series we discussed, I will come down and support a Series like that, how about next "off season" ? and approach South Waikato to include their exceptionally successful "speed day" as a finale.
Supporting Zones encourages strong Clubs ethics.

Mangatainoka was a awesome event, one of my first in the FJ40.
the event was awesoem, how ever, I think think the free brewery tour and "tasting" blew the mind (4 hours locked in a room with fridges full of product), i can't remember walking home.........
They had a bonfire at a local school one night, i have never seen a bonfire that large before, it was literally the size of a house you could not sit withen about 60-80 feet of it cause it was to bloody hot.
Bring the events on.

"i have never seen a bonfire that large before, it was literally the size of a house"
Pedro it was only that big 'cause you were a little fella back then, I felt the Series as such really had added value 'cause we all camped on site, it had a sort of leveling effect with everyone.
Sadly these days everyone has too much money and 6 Star Motels a minimum.
....... then there was the 10 day stay Camp out at Tihoi Pedro, where Phil had his first outing with Dunlop 7.50x16 - 6 ply rags on the FJ40 and refused to let them down below 20 psi.
That was Colins first outing with the x Egmont CJ3 V6 Buick Jeep !
Sorry I digress,
Merry Xmas dudes and dude'etts,
Paul

you'd be suprised Paul
yes there is an element of money, but a bit of it is being spent on horse trucks, campers and trailers with camping set-ups
a lot of folks would like to camp onsite, but it seems to have been taken off the info sheet where it used to reside
never fear, coz I put a remit in to see it re-instated to the info sheet so clubs can allow for more onsite camping
promotes ease of access for larger trucks and trailers the day before and allows for the social side to come back into the sport a bit more
seems like a win win situation to me
but we'll wait and see
and you have a great xmas/new years too

Never mind, was there. thought Fun Trials was different

A fun time was had by all even in the rain. It gave me great prospective on what to do and not what to do with my truck.

Dragged my bright yellow A class 413 all the way from Masterton. First time outing in the new rig. Had a real good time. Did some dumb stuff that I hope to improve on (like unclipping the seat belt harness with my sleeve a couple of times) but also had some success. Real enjoyable though. Look out round 5 in Napier, 14th March.
Cheers MIKE.

Good onya mate! Good to see someone getting into A class. The more seat time you get the better you drive it! Just look at Derek Smythe who won the first 2 rounds this season - he used to drive an LJ80 in A class...
