rolled it

Post by tanga »

rolled my surf (91 bodylifted /surf 3ye) over the weekend onto the drivers side

it has only suffered minor panel damage but since then the gear stick seems to have moved right about 3 - 5 cm

ive looked under the body for broken mounts etc / the only mount i can find is broken is the one that holds the exhaust to the gearbox / would this mount being broken cause the gearbox to move that much - the car still drives fine / no drivetrain vibrations etc / could the mounts be bent / has anyone had any similar issues ? are there weak points i should be looking for ? any help would be much appreciated

How high is your body lift?
Check how the body is now mounted to the chassis. If you have small dia lift blocks and have any more than 50mm you are asking for trouble. There is a line of thought from some that any form of body lift is asking for issues, but I have been running 50 mm lifts for 10 yrs with no adverse deals, (and one of those trucks has been over many times :P )

I would check the body has not moved on the mounts, or bent the bolts.

Not the body lift. I twisted the chassis rails and bent the entire body over at just below door handle height. No point pissing about eh? do it once, do it right

it is bodylifted 50 mil

i suspect the body could have moved as one of the bolts on the mid - rear for the bodylift is loose however the other's are fine (front / rear) / could be the issue

however there doesnt appear to be any movement in the body vs where the chasis is
