we do the steinbauer chips, and unlike any of the others it controls fuel electronically, all the other"chips" raise the fuel rail pressure....

Diesel Pumps in Sockburn Chch sell Steinbauer as well. If Scott sells this brand, then it will perform well.

yup, Scott is one of our Steinbauer agents, we also sell them thru the ARB dealers around the country..

the modules are made in Austria but tuned in Aussie and Here to suit out lack-lustre fuel. in trucks and tractors they are getting on average 10% fuel saving and generally spend less time on the road/paddock...

we sell lots of D4-D for the new Hilux and for the D40 Navara, they go from 126kw to over 150kw and they go great!! if you add a decent exhaust and air intake (ie good filter) then you get even more bang!!

We have one of the new 3 litre common rail Hiaces (2008). No where near as nice as our old 1kz powered van (1998).

The old one had a nice even power range, but the new one loves to be in the 2.5-3.5k rev range or it doesn't bother performing. You have to do much more planning for over taking etc, the other one was a nicer van to drive.

This one's ok for around town but we do a lot of long haul work.

I understand the hiaces are set at about 90kw, and the hiluxs and prados are more like 120kw.

Can a hilux/prado chip go in? does it improve it much? what other options? what sort of costs?
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

the steinbauer will help reduce the lag that common rail diesels have, the power comes on earlier, as does the tourque...

see this graph for the 2.5td hiace chip:

http://www.steinbauer.cc/neu/pdf///STEINBAUER_aus__Toyota_Hilux_25_D-4D__1204_75_kW_1.pdf

Sig, the reason they are more expensive is they electronically enhance the fuel delivery, not force more fuel thru... the unit has many features, it doesn't run at idle, cuts out before redline ( to save EGT) and even cuts back the extra power if held at constant full throttle say going up a hill at 2500RPM, thus also keeping EGT at a normal level. ALL the other modules just push more fuel in, and considering common rails run at 28000psi already, more forced thru isnt ideal........
