caliper rub?

Post by Sausage »

Just got some new new wheels and tyres for my truck and put the first one on the front and the inside of the rim touches the top of the caliper? once done up tight i cant turn the wheel any thoughts? wheels came off a 1994 four runner and now on a 1995 surf kzn130 so assume they have same breaks and running gear so didnt think there would be a problem......

any thoughts?

maybe but comming off a four runner assumed they would be fine as same running gear? and on the inside of the rims there is a line all the way round where the caliper as worn a mm or so off so maybe was a problem in the first place on the four runner until a bit had shaved off?

tallsam is correct they are designed for a bean axle hilux or similar, ideally you need other rims rather than weakening your calipers. but you must be happy with it.

for future reference IFS wheels will fit the beam axle trucks but beam axle wheels wont fit IFS without spacers. (for ROH TRAK II or similar)

Lets just hope the wof man doesn't see your calipers when it comes to wof time
toymota thats stock standard.

yea mate wrong offset (backspacing) i run a mag and tyre shop so see alot of problem like you have...you have to factor in if your out 4wdn and ever hit the rims hard on something your going to buckle them enough to rub again and then your stuck in the middle of no where...you are really wanting a et0 wheel or even negative to get abit wide track also.

Also if you get wheels with more offset youll have less rubbing on the inside when you articulate & steer full lock.

you really want atleast a et of -13 or lower for 7inch,-20 or more for 8inch,-44 for 10inch rims...these fitment will be best suited to the size tyres etc will want to be running on your truck.

you just dont really want to get stuck somewhere with a wheel jammed up...you'd be surprised at even what your wheels and hubs will pick up when your driving through mud,it wont take much in the way or rock,sticks/logs to jam it up also.
