lazy retractors on seat belts

Post by Heath »

So is it possible to "wind up the spring" on Prado seat belts to get them to pull up tighter? They have bugger all tension at the moment and pull slowly at best (have to help their sorry asses to get all tucked away). :?

Is it the retractors or gunk build up on the belts themselves causing the problem?

The top belt pivot point gets all gunked up.
Try pulling out the belt from below that point and let it go. If it retracts easy, its that top point that is dragging.

At work we usually clean the plastic with a contact cleaner then give it a spray with silicon.

If they are sticking (normally slows them down) Give the belts a good wash and use fabric softener, bit messy doing it in the truck but it works a treat.
Saved me from a failed WOF.
