OME suspension

Post by Thomas »

Hi all, just bought my first 4wd, 93 surf, so far ive got sum mud tyres snorkel and a 2.5inch exhaust from the back of the turbo to help my engine head stop cracking or so they say. I am looking to give it new suspension and hopefuly lift it up a couple of inches, i have been looking at an old man emu set up and was wondering if someone else has had any experience with this brand and what they are like. any thoughts would be appreciated. cheers

Some guys have complained of the OME stuff sagging - shop around, theres lots to choose from. OME, Cobra, King, Dobinsons, MaxiTrac to name a few.

Also, keep the servicings regular on the Surf to keep the motor as safe as you can... nothing can guarantee those 2.4TDs but regular servicings and that big exhaust will be as good as you can get to ensure it doesn't pop.

Welcome aboard :)

Cheers for the info, i have another question though, heavy duty or a medium style coil and shock combo? i know you can get heavy duty coils but what about shocks? i am keen on heavy duty stuff but is my surf heavy enough? any help again would be appreciated, thanks

Heavy duty means different things in different products, but probably the heavy duty coils will need a lot of weight on them to flex properly... so avoid em unless you're a bricky or something :)

Go with long travel gas-charged shocks with a larger than factory bore, as they will hold up to offroading better. These might be called heavy duty - which in relation to most factory shocks on Japper 4WDs is a very good thing.

Check out EFS. From what I hear there suspension components can take a hell of a pounding & still come back for more.

I run OME currently in the terrano, put it in when I bought it. Shocks are great and coils are "great" with no load what so ever in the back. They sag as supralux said. But the shocks are shit hot.
