Hilux engine

Post by Theo »

Hey Guys new to the site, I recently drowned my 1990 Surf 2LT in the Waimak and was wanting some advice on what to do? I have been told it will probable be cheaper to buy a new engine so if any one has one for sale let me know, was thinking I might aswell get a bigger engine while Im at it like the 2.8 or the 3.0L turbo or non turbo.

Any advise on what to do would be much appreciated thanks.

Hi,most likley bent rods, If your handy with the spanners strip her down and have a look.
Other options are recoed short block (lineside) Around $2G for short block then reassembly and possibly head work.

Repower with second hand, may be able to get 3l (2.8 litre) for around 2 grand
Others will know for sure but I'm not sure if going for the 3L or 5L will be a straight change over job :?:
Best of luck.
Ps I drowned my hilux a wee while ago, claimed on insurance and they paid out.
Insurance :?: :?:

Cheers for the advise! I have been reading up about it and I'm gonna take the glow plugs out on Saturday and try and flush all the water out, apparently theres a small chance it will work so might as well try. If that fails I guess I'll have to buy a new engine or something, so If you have one you want to get rid of let me know :D

Cheers

Yea mate got Two rooted 2L's or a shagged 3L even got a buggered 3 B Let me know which one your keen on :?: :D :D
Few Questions
How much water did she get?
Did you keep it running after injesting water?
How many revs were on when she drowned?
If you can pull it out and get it apart your self you may be able to get it repaired for under a grand.

Haha howd you screw that many up?

Not to sure how much water got in the engine but the car flooded so im guessing it sucked in a fair bit!

The engine lost power in the middle of the river and died so don't think it screwd it then, we towed it out and let it dry a bit, then tried starting it (bad move) turned over a bit then seized up.

I took the glow plugs out on the weekend to try and get the water out of the cylinders but it wouldnt turn over and last resort we tried push starting it but the wheels lock up and wont turn when in gear.

Have found a spares truck on trademe so going to put the engine out of that in mine if I win!

Cheers for all the help boys!!!
