Alternator reconditioning

Post by pjb »

Folks, does any know if it's possible to get alternators reconditioned? Excuse my ignorance.

Electrically the alternator is fine, but it's making an horrendous noise; assume the bearings are shot. It's on a 3.5 Pajero...

Cheers,

Welcome to the world of 3.5 alternators......

Yes they can be recoditioned, mine has been done 3 times in 5 years. They are mounted too low compared to the 3.0 ones. It is an act getting it out without taking the radiator out, remove airbox and that gives you access to the bolts and with a bit of twistng/rotating/inverting it will pop out. POP!

Cheers Glen,
Yeah, I'm missing my old 3.0 with it's altogether far more sensible alternator placement... Guess I'll set to work extracting it!
How's that V8 pajota coming along?
