Hey all
just wondering, looking at replacing my bent and fcuked side steps with some nice bar work, just wondering wat u guys do with the mounting to the chassis? Straight weld to chassis, bolt to chassis or weld big plates with threaded holes to chassis then bolt to them.. Any info/pics would be mint
cheers guys
Skid/side bars..
Re: Skid/side bars..
I had some 6mm plate bent into a C shape to fit over the chases rail, backing 6mm plate and crush tubes in the rail.

I did the same thing, except mine don't bolt through the chassis rails at all, the clamp around it, and I challenge any on here to give their side bars more of a hiding than mine have had

This is how they were on the old truck, and I am using the same bars again, My exo also mounts on these

Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!
Re: Skid/side bars..
Oh yea so then bolted it hence the crush tubes? Cheers for that, any specs on the kind of pipe I'd want to use? Or where to get it cheap
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Skid/side bars..
Look at the chassis rails where you will be mounting them, if they are parallel it could move forward and back if the chassis narrows like Rockhound you will be sweet.
I have seen both types plates drilled and tapped, clamped like Rokhound and directly welded to chassis.
Directly welded (was a poor job and ripped the chassis, drilled and tapped (never moved and they are solid) and I have done similar to Rokhound but 4 bolts 2 on top 2 under the chassis rail with a plate on the other side (I couldn't fold the steel).
Oh and I used tube and got the bends wrong one side is 25mm longer than the other but Sssshhhh don't tell anyone
