GQ Difflock slow to disengage

Post by 4WDbits »

Factory rear difflock often doesn't disengage for a long time and gives a bit of a clunk when coming out. Anyone experienced this? Is there an easy fix?

Check the electrically operated vacuum switch on the firewall is working well, sometimes a dose of CRC is in order.
Check vacuum supply is not being lost, perished hoses, tired pump

I'll go through the whole system. I wondered if this was common. I thought the vacumm engaged the diff lock, not disengage.

Do a search on Outerlimits....there is some tech info and part numbers for replacing solenoids which speeds up the engage / disengage.

Also, the dog-gear needs 90° rotation for engage/disengage, so can often take a while. A bit of wheel lock helps.
