Slim pickings over winter, could head down to Cromwell-Bannockburn head into the Nevis Valley,Carricktown.Queenstown-Skippers,Macetown. Haven't been up there for few weeks all depends how much snows around.

Now would be the time to go as there has,nt been a serious frost here for a while so she could be melting a little. Not much snow around either, try following the sun.

The Nevis is closed now and the gates will be locked.

Nip over Haast Pass and go up the Landsborough River?
Its winter, the tops are all snowed in, the back roads are gated off and the rivers are iced up. Thats why we go ski-ing insted

Macetown could be alright provided the river ain't frozen. I hav'nt been in there in ages so not sure what conditions are.

It was recently opened several years ago when we went in. (Just realising that it was several years ago we went in...)
I assume it is still open - the DoC website does not refer to it for 4WDing, but lists it as the access for hunting further up the valley.
A light trip. G2.

A mate went into Skippers yesterday reckoned it was rutted and muddy but he made it in 2wd, don't think he went to far tho.

One other is Thompson Gorge between Bendigo and Manuherikia.

Hi, was up the landsborough at new year. Track was pretty good with some minor washouts in the creek crossings. Got to the clark junction without any problems and believe you can go further when the river is low.People have crossed the landsborough and driven up the clark flats. Landsborough station was purchased thru the land tenure process and is now public conservation land so acess should not be a problem. Plenty of good places to camp.
