Just got back from red rocks.
I spent more than an hour an a half winching an digging a piece of shit l300 mitsi ute out of deep soft sand in the dark.
The stoned f#ckwits inside were very little help. When I got there, there were 2 zuks a terrano an a patrol, all but the terrano fu#ked off when they saw I had a winch.
It had only a weak factory hook on the front to winch off so I had to run a strop thru his bumper an thru the winch hook an use my jacket as a winch dampener cos I was worried itd rip off the chassis

Me an my co pilot eventually managed to drag them out an they followed us out to the gate an promised to buy us some beer as thanks, but when we got to the mill he'd taken a wrong turn an didnt follow us so had to buy my own piss
Kinda makes ya think it could be a good lesson for people like that to just leave them their to walk out. Bad karma to leave someone behind tho

They said they had no cash on them, Was pretty close to picking up my strops an driving away half way thru when I got him out an moving only to have him bury it again 5m from the hard rocky part of the track
Drugs an offroading are bad mmmkay

Also found it interesting that out of 6 other 4x4s that passed by none of them had any proper recovery gear, when I got there one of the guys in a vitara was trying to pull the l300 out with a ratchet tiedown strop :x

We got some fishers out one rainy night. Asked them if they had any beer and they just drove off. We went and turned round on the same bit of hard ground that we used to turn there Surf on and found a backpack that had fallen out of the open back door...Inside was 10 beers, a wallet, car keys etc. We took the beer and left the rest. We meet them heading back and they asked if we had seen there bag When we said we had not they said they didnt think they could get back over Devils Gate. We just wave a beer at them and drove off.
Just one of the many rescues round there. Had a guy tell me he would drop beers off the next day. I saw him go past but didnt stop..
But then one guy gave me $50 and another fisher went back to Island Bay And got me a Dozen Heinies so its not all Bad

hehe that seal watch guy is just as bad, we spent ages helping him. He asked for my number and was SO insistent he would buy me beers, and yup you guessed it I never heard from him. Now id be very reluctant to ever help him again...
