84 surf 3L repower

Hi,
I'm looking at repowering my 84 surf (currently a seized 2.8 litre 3L engine) to use as a winch truck.

Has anyone got any ideas on a cheap engine (and maybe gearbox) replacement?

many options, how big is your budget??


use the search function on here to look for toyota transplants... most toyota engines bolt to toyota gearboxs (most, NOT all lol) or there are adaptor kits for say commie V6 to lux, etc etc

you need to decide what kind of performance you wish to gain as well!!

The budget is quite small so we have come up with a new plan. We are going to swap the surf body onto a disco chasis and use the disco v8.
