Places to play around Christchurch

Post by Mongoose »

OK so not planning a specific trip but after a dismal failure to get up Worsley yesterday I'm interested to hear about other good day trip play areas closeish to the city.
Have been out and had a play on the Waimak river bed but that fine river silt kills everything. Have done some playing out at McLeans but that's mostly getting pretty extreme now with huge holes dug by big tyres.
Where else within reasonable driving distance is good for challenging driving but without needing ridiculous mods to the truck? I've got a decent set of 33 muds and a snorkel, currently on stock suspension and a 3b diesel.

Cheers.

Thanks Al, I've been up to Pucker recently and definitely want to go back and try some of the tracks. Will look into the other places you suggest.

Tallsam, I used to be a member of the Canterbury Recreational 4wd club and will probably start going out with them again but sometimes it's just nice to get a few trucks together and go have a play without having to drive too far.

Thanks guys.

Check river flows on the ECAN site before hand. Ashley can be a tricky river with a bit of water in it.
