Looking to buy a Surf

Post by Nato »

Hi there,

I'm currently looking at purchasing a '91 Surf with 130kms on the clock with fully rebuilt engine and turbo 3000kms ago (off a member of the family). It has a free flow exhaust and safari snorkel with 30 inch BF Goodrich Mud Terrains, also is a manual. It needs new front shocks and possibly a new clutch but other than that seems to be in excellent condition. What would be a fair price to pay for a truck like this?

Cheers

i wouldnt pay more than a grand for it. by the time you do a clutch etc, then it cracks a head it will cost you an extra 10 grand by the end of the year, buy a landcruiser or a safari or even a non turbo hilux.

Clutch and shocks aren't that hard to do, if you are handy then it might be worthwhile cost wise.

The 2.4 Turbo's are certainly cursed but a large freeflow exhaust, water pump replacement, larger aftermarket radiator and good servicing should see it last for ages unless you are extremely lucky.

Looking on Trademe, people seem to be asking about 4kish for average condition LN130's.

Matt.

Thanks for your opinions. Yeah i've heard about the heads cracking on them, it got a new one of those as well when it got the rebuild along with the free-flow and snorkel. I was looking at paying around 5 so I think I might go ahead with it as I find the rebuilt engine pretty attractive. Cheers

Just keep the oil & filter changes regular, and the coolant the correct mix and topped up and you should be fine. They're a good truck, and with a SAS you'll be hard to beat offroad :)
