91 landcruiser with a part time 4x4 selection transfur box was running the old style 60series 5 speed box and transfur box this could take a pto
i think they were aussy only at a guess
if the LC is auto or later than 91 with full time 4x4 then a big sad no

sig / mudlva - does this mean that I just need to change the transfer case / box?

Or do I need to find a way to mate-up a 60 series 5 speed box to the 4.2 litre 1HD-FT diesel engine?

If I do the latter, does that mean that I can set up the 80 with optional 4wheel drive?

I havent done the swap myself but the best that i know of the 5speed bell housing bolts straight to the motor there will be issues in sorting the clutch out and at a guess the drive shafts will need to be altered after that pto to your hearts content

you can not mate the split transfur box the the rear of the 80 auto. if you can find some crowd that could they would make a fortune as there is a demend for it as the 80 is a good base to build a beut truck from

there you go all knowledge excedded

cheers and good luck

Why not just go Electric or Hydraulic winch? Would be alot cheaper and easier.

was hoping that using an existing PTO from an FJ40 sitting in the driveway would be easy and cheap enough. But it's sounding like that's not the case ...

To be honest, it's not something I'm likely to need but just figured that while I'm butchering I might as well use as much as I can from the donor vehicle.

Sounds like I might be posting up an FJ40 PTO and Winch on Trademe ;o)

Hmm, so with mine being one of the rare part time 4wd's I should in theory be able to fit a PTO winch....Anyone got pics of what to look for on the box to confirm?
The GQ's were easy, just a blanking plate on the side of the gearbox, not sure about these things though.

Dave - once you've confirmed, please send said vehicle and transfer-of-ownership papers! :D

Incidentally - what model is yours, so that I can scan the ads ...

Mine VIN says HDJ81. Its a 1990 VX, but I've only ever seen 1 other with the factory part time, didn't realise it was available until I purchased mine

check the transfur case there will be a blanking plate on the left side of the transfur box and it should have 6 bolts holding it on pull the plate off and hopefully you will be able to see a straight spline gear in there that will be the pto gear drive sprocket :D
