rav4?

Post by flyingbrick »

are the 3 or 5 door rav 4's worth owning? They look like nice little cars.

Prone to breaking everything? would they handle a set of 30" AT's and be ok with going on shiney 4wd trips?

any low range?

part time or full time 4wd?

Figure they must be shit as you never hear about them here in ORE :D

Full-time 4wd, no low range. Took a 2 door for a test drive when first released many years ago. Fastest trip over the Takaka hill ever, it was lifting the inside front wheel on most of the corners

Went like a cut cat and handled bloody well. Offroad??? Never tried it

They are just a high car basically. Talked to a few car yards about getting one for the old man and they reckon they've had endless problems with second hand ones. No details were given but sounded electrical.
Why not just get a vitara/escudo whatever?? I just bought a lwb escudo last weekend for 2 grand wof and rego and just under 200 thou ks.

The new ones are very different to the older first models too.

The new ravs. Shape, interior, track width at a glance. Unsure about engine etc. Never got that far looking at one.

Newer model vitaras are different too.

The escudo i got was a 93? i think.

Had a new RAV as a rental. Had centre diff lock, but no low range. Some models have a hill descent feature.
Has about as much articulation as a ferrari. It struggled to keep wheels grounded no a gravel switchback track. Had to do three point turns on switchbacks, and get a straight run up (and push).

Nice for driving around skifield roads though, and really easy on the gas too.

yeah rav 4 is out of the question. didn't realise how small the boot was and how gay in general they are.

boot size also throws the vitara out (although not seen the rear of a LWB?)

thinking an xj is the go. throw some AT's on it and have something nice for taking the mrs and dogs out in and maybe attend some shiny runs and time up thomo's.

XJ has the benefit of being able to tow a decent trailer too and thats the only way my saf gets from A to B right now
