D21 3L petrol problem, help!

Post by zarnah »

Hi all, "new guy" here, Ryan is my name and I live at Waikuku just north of CHCH.

I have a D21 Terrano and I have a problem with it! Drove into CHCH the other day and everything was fine as per usuall (the old girl is nearly on the 300k mark, but runs like an absolute trooper) Got home, turned truck off and then when I tried to start it the next day it fired into life for a second or two, then died and wouldnt fire again, checked wiring to fuel pump with a multimeter and no power there and I had no spark, so I went about replacing/swapping all the relays I could find to see if that would at least rectify my fuel problem, but didnt help.
I then noticed that my ECU has a small red LED light lit up on it as well as the usual green one? Pretty sure I havnt seen the little red light going before?
So now im at a bit of a loss, allthough im guessing that the ECU is getting a signal from a crank sensor or something that it doesnt like and is cutting ignition and fuel?
What should I check for?
I dont know much about nissans but have done a lot of work on subarus and know that most subarus have a set of plugs under the dash that you can plug together and the check engine light will "flash" you a code that you can then cross-reference against a chart to diagnose problems, does the terrano have anything like this?
I have dis-connected battery for a few hours to allow the ECU to reset itself, but when I try again I get the same thing- it fires into life then dies and fuel and ignition is cut again.
