i need a new air filter and can get a k&n for aobut $100 and standard for about $30 was wondering if anybody had put one in a 3L v6 petrol surf? i have heard about some ppl having gr8 improvements with some engines and no noticeable change with others. If its not gona go any betta then will probly jst get cheap one. i would be hoping for slightly better economy and maby a littlel more torque (obviously its only an air filter so im not expecting gr8 changes). what do people think anybody got one in there truck?

k&n air filter in surf
Have read on quite a few forums many on going debates about K&N. 3 page long one on OL not too long ago.
I run a K&N cone filter in my "custom lunchbox" filter housing
Bootyfab at its finest but works
I keep it oiled and it seems to catch a lot of dust and crap. Couldnt give comparison as I started using it on a new motor.
Must look in the airflow meter and see what layer of crap may be in there
Anyway if you want some boring reading have a nosey here

Obviously dont believe everything you see on the net, but still makes for some interesting reading...

Any new filter will be an improvement anyway the benefit of the K&N filter is the fact it is washable so after a dusty trip you will get a new filter back by washing and oiling it rather than replacement.
K&N usually alow more air to flow through them than a paper filter but if you get the paper one wet then it is useless the K&N wont be affected in the same way.
Oh and the oil is not spare stuff from the diff, gearbox, engine or the stuff used on your partner
Me personaly I have run both but if I replace a filter I go K&N or a similar washable filter.
