Hi does anyone have a model specific method of successfully bleeding a 2.7 turbo diesel terrano?
Every time I change my fuel filter I go through the same annoying drama to get the thing running ok. I know I probably sound like a numpty but every time I try to bleed it i end up flattening the battery and its a pain in the ...... cheers

easiest method i find is...
unhook and clamp of fuel hoses. this is important otherwise the fuel will drain back to tank and it will take ages to pump it back up.
change filter. put inlet fuel hose back on, pump primer until fuel starts coming out of filter outlet. fit outlet hose back on.
you may want to partly fit it on and pump the primer in an effort to keep the fuel hose filled with fuel. the less air left in the hoses the better.
start engine. DO NOT REV IT.
if its stops, due to bit of air in fuel hose, prime it till hard then restart.
there is no need to keep cranking etc.
if the primer doesn't suck fuel up then its faulty and is probably leaking air, so its best to replace it.
if all else fails, fit an electric fuel pump.

at the deisel pump theres a 10mm nut, undo it abit then pump the top off the filter till you get a constant flow off fuel (not air and fuel) tighten it back up then crack of 1 injector at a time and crank the engine.
use a 17mm pipe wrench so you dont round them
hopfully this will do the trick
had to do this a few times when i put dirty deisel (watered deisel) in my truck

thanks all for your help just a fast question regards the plastic wing nut bleed bolt at the top of the filter housing. should i unscrew it and pump till only fuel comes out or leave it closed?

Hi mate, Whenever I change Diesel filters, 4X4, Diggers, Loaders, Trucks, etc, I always pre fill my filters with fresh diesel before refitting, havn't had to bleed a system for nealy 20 years doing it this way? Give it a lash next time ya do ya filter an see if it helps. Reece.

Hi mate where abouts is this 10mm nut you are talking about? I can seee where the fuel line goes into the injector pump but its a 17mm banjo fitting. Unfortunately with it being a turbo there isn't a lot of room to manouver.
cheers
Re: need help bleeding a terrano diesel
i wouldn't bother undoing anything on the actual pump or even injectors unless you actually run out of fuel.
as reeceb said, as long as you prefill the filter your fine. most vehicles you don't need to prefill, just fill it up with the primer til it comes out the outlet or if its got a bleed screw on top of the housing.

thanks everyone for your input

Re: need help bleeding a terrano diesel
the 10mm nut is on the side off the injector pump itself.
but i only had to do this to get water out off my system.
if you block off both fuel lines from the fuel filter, change filter than put the line from the tank on and pump the primer until fuel starts pissing out. then put the line to the injector pump on and pump the primer till it goes real hard. ive never had a problem doing it this way.

Re: need help bleeding a terrano diesel
I do not bother blocking off the fuel lines on my Terrano when I change the filter. I have just recently moved the filter to the drivers side and had the lines completely open from the fender well.
When I put it all back together, with a smear of oil on the rubber seal, I just pump the primer on top of the filter until it goes hard to pump. Start the engine and all is well. I have been doing this for over 6 years now with no issues.

Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

blocking off the fuel lines makes it a whole lot quicker and easier if the primer is not working well. simply because your not sucking fuel all the way up from the tank.
