Wellington Winch Challenge - 2007/8 ?

Post by worthog »

A few of us are seriously considering running a winch challenge over a long weekend in Wellington. This would be for two classes of trucks, probably one for new comers - up to 33" tyres and the over for the existing winch trucks.
Both trucks would need current WOF as we would be running on public roads between stages

Entry fee would be kept to a minimum and there would probably be two days and one night stage involved. Day stages would have some long fast sections also some sections for winching.

We are trying to get an idea of how many would be interested in entering, especially the "new comers" section

Please forward your thoughts

Would you run Winch challenge rules, or make your own??
eg, would steel cable be allowed in the beginners class, and would the required roll protection be minimal for hard top vehicles etc etc.

Early days i know, but thats the kind of stuff people want to know before they can tell you if they were interetsed..........

Bloody good idea though!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would be keen. Know a few others that would be aswell!!!!

I think from our disscusions when over in aussie the rules would be based around on the Winch Challenge rules. "B" Piller Hoop etc

We havent got together and talked about it since then and nothing has been set yet so the beginners class may different.

I've just noticed the proposal to run a Wellington area Winch Challenge and as the current president of 4x4 Challenges NZ Inc, who have been managing the rules etc, I'll volunteer our interest if we can help.

Our team have experience of all the NZ challenges so far from an organising perspective and have several major check sheets, safety plans etc that could make life easier.

There is a plan to review the rules shortly to incorporate recent developments and generally tidy a few areas again.

The AGM for 4x4 Challenges is planned for June 26 so if there are specific questions anyone has they may be able to be addressed at that meeting.

with that sort of deadline I might just have the "Lemon" ready so you could count me in .... prob run in the over class 8) finding a set of decent 33"s I could borrow would be a bit hard

Our rules have not yet been defined, however we would like to keep them the same as the Rotorua winch challenge ones, that way a common set of rules is maintained and competitors know where they stand. No learning of new rules etc

Peter, is there a web site available where one can view all of the details that you have mentioned in your posting.

Do you guys lend gear out for winch challenge events - what is the setup
cheers
