K&N apolo cold air closed system

Post by Mud Hog »

Trying to find a air box to use when I fit a turbo to a TD42. Was looking for a ZD30 air box but too hard to find. So I found this it ses that it is rated to 350hp on a turbo engine. Don't think I will have more than 350hp even with fuel wound up. Whats peoples thoughts on this product? There about $400 with filter. Probably could get a better one custom made for that price?

Cheers Simon

forget horse power ratings when dealing with diesels.
the main thing is sheer size.
i'm not a fan of k&n on diesels. i would find something off a factory turbo diesel that has more power than what your aiming for. don't forget trucks. they often have good air filter setups.
also crowds like donaldson make good sized air filter encloses.

the problem with smallish ones is because a diesel consumes so much air they can fill with dust very quickly.

you want an airfilter that will outflow a K&N try one from a tractor.

there designed for massive airflow.

i think you will find tractor ones are on the small size due to space constraints. but if the tractor motor is big enough the filter will still be big enough.
trucks are often easier because they often have a bit more room to fit a big filter.

What area do you have available?

Can have a look at work tomorrow and check out what size donaldson enclosures would suit. Off the top of my head I'm nearly certain it'll work out alot cheaper than the K&N one you're looking at too.

Will be easier getting a new one that fits your requirements rather than getting a second hand one out of another vehicle and having to modify it.

Have tried finding a ZD30 one but there elusive. I might have to have a look at yours some day.(just joining North canterbury club). Did you have to move a battery? Will try ebay. I am happy about using a K&N always have its this apolo thing I am uncertain about.

Have a reasonable amount of room Its to fit a TD42 soon TD42+T
That would be great never heard of donaldson will get back to you with the room I have to work with.

Too hard to find a ZD30 one sounds like a donaldson enclosure could be the go.

That would be great if you put up a pic. I agree thats why I am spending the time and money to get it right. Really well sealed and breathes easy. Yeah thats the one the newbie at the last meet.
