From Two wheels to 4WD!

Post by the_reverand »

Heya team,

Just a quick introduction as I step into the unknown world of offroading...

I've been on the long haul to recovery from busting my back and assorted other valuable parts of the anatomy, and come from a background of riding motorcycles on both dirt and road- it's because of this wee passion(and previous occupation) that I've developed a grin for all motorsport.

They did rebuild me, they had the technology, and I've decided to pick up an entry level 4wd vehicle to keep me happy and be able to have some fun with a motor again.

Thanks to the wonderful folk at ACC(note: motorcyclist pun directed at Levies) I'm on a budget, so enter a 1992 Terrano TD27 turbs/Manual- 220,000 km, service schedule and tidy except for odd scratch and ding- on 15" rims and 30x9 Desert Duellers.

So far have done the following :
Oil/filter, fuel filter,new alternator(brake shaft was worn),new hoses.

Tinted the windows(have dogs;)
Rhino roof racks

Removed butterfly on intake, pod filter, catch can, removed large clogged muffler and replaced with coby(still got factory 2" exhaust),fitted boost gauge, adjusted wastegate arm for a bit more forced air,and blanked off the factory blow off valve, and nolathane bushes on everything but swaybar were done before I got the vehicle.

If anyone has any parts/advice kicking around that will let me make this a slightly better offroad daily driver that is budget orientated please let me know! Ideally I'd like to raise via suspension lift as the rears are sagging a bit..and I have a set of steel rims on 31's ready to fit. :) Cotemplating a pipe change to a 2.5 inch if I'll get a noticable flow increase too?

Open to any other ideas/input or bits that anyone may want to get rid of,am Auckland based but have plenty of time to drive :D

Thanks for any support guys, and looking forward to driving where you guys do once I teach myself how...

Regards,
Gav

But ues a 2.5" will flow better. and depending where you are you might want to get a snorkel too.

have a read of this thread too. Has some helpful stuff in it.
