Hi
We will be pulling apart our front diff on the trials truck tomorrow night to instal the howie hydraulic locker.
Question is how important are the Axle Snap Rings (the rings that fit into the slot on the end of the axle)??
Just thinking will make cv and axle replacement in the pits a heap quicker if we don't need to put them back on??
Will not having them on cause any problems??

Hi,
If you google "Martack Axle" you will see that some people do not use the C clip for easy CV replacement. Personally I am not convinced this is a good mod as will weaken the axle a little bit, not sure by how much though, I guess probably not a prolem if running stock CV's.
On the other hand I would have thought that it you are wanting to be able to change CV's easily must mean you are busting them regularly.
Why not upgrade to something that is much much stronger like Longfields or Dirty 30's so you don't need to be changing CV's, this is presuming you are running Toyota hilux or Landcruiser axles.
If running Zuk then Front Rock Assault 4340 Chromoly Axle Shafts
Cheers

Re: Axle Snap Ring
ran mine with no CV clip or outer circlip either for that matter, you do end up with a touch down on the CV to ball housing on the inner edge, with running a slippery/locker the axle cannot move inwards pass the side gear,
do some measurement, put inner axle in the hole and measure the stick out of the axle, and figure out where it sits in relation to the cv cage.

Cheers for replies and will have a measure up tonight.
At this stage haven't had issues with CV's just thinking if not required could save time if needing to change in a hurry.
