90 Surf 2LTE engine removal

Post by Filthy4x4 »

Just wondering if anyone knows an easy way to get a 2lte out of a surf?

We have unplugged all wiring etc, gearbox/starter all unbolted.

We are stuck on finding an easy way to remove the engine mounts anyone know?

Cheers

undo the nuts from underneath with a 14mm spanner?
edit as in dont actually remove the mount from the block. 2 14mm bolts with nuts underneath running north / south with engine.

Also if you are tight for lifting height, strop down the suspension so when the weight comes off the truck it doesn't follow you up.
Learnt that one when I pulled the 1KZTE from my Prado. Sometimes a lift can cause issues.... :D
If its an auto, leave the torque converter on the box, just get underneath and undo the bolts thru the flexi plate, you will have to turn it over to get to each bolt. Saves loosing fluid and also when you reassemble it will ensure you don't damage anything like pumps / seals and one less thing to align.

Have fun...

on that note, if its a manual hilux / surf its a lot easier to drop the driveshafts / levers then unbolt the gearbox xmember and lower it down 100mm that way you can get at the top bell housing bolts easily not undo them at 1/50th of a turn.

where are you actually stuck on th engine mounts, seized, undoing wrong bolts, cant get enough torque to crack them?

Cheers guys will have another crack at it tonight. Brain had shut down by that stage.

We started undoing the 2 bolts running north/south with the motor but then found a bolt in the middle of those too that were covered in mud so we thought it may be those but there is only one on each side.

Hopefully ill be able to clear the roof otherwise strop sounds like an excellent idea.

Its a manual surf. All bellhousing bolts are undone, starter motor was the only mission.

that big bolt 17mm? in the middle is part of the two piece mount, leave it done up.
maybe drop the wheels off it and lower it onto some blocks?
as it is quite a tall engine and if your already worried abotu space,,,

Yep thats the one. Will do them back up and remove the others. Just that the drivers side one looks a bit of a mission to get at.

I think I may drop the wheels off just in case, saves doing it while engine is dangling in the way.
