Rear landcruiser prado Diff

Post by rob-mu »

Hey
My landcruiser prado has a factory rear diff lock that doesn't seem to want to engage.
Is it worth trying to fix it or just get a arb one? If i do keep the factory diff lock,Can you rewire them so you can engage it when in 2wd?
Cheers

Its probably the electric motor or contacts that need cleaning out.
The breather for them is known to suck in the mud / silt.
I don't think the ARB will fit in a Locker diff....And also $$$$$.
Yes you can wire it to work in 2WD...
There are some interlocks in the controller. One for making sure its in 4wd and the others from memory is speed and also Low range.

There is plenty on info on the net re the Toyota E locker...
Google is your friend.

I can email you an article I did when I retro fitted one to my KZJ78... EDIT here is a file you can download.

It has some links to info on the net.

I would just repair what you have arb only worth while if your competing. As Calvin said the mod for 2wd can be done I have done mine so I can put it in in 4wd HI its just a matter of earthing a wire, just be careful because it makes it easy to do by mistake, or in my case little hands. I have put the earth wire into a switch so I have to flick the two to make it go in if not in 4wd LOW.
I would start by making sure your getting power to the locker, if so the pull motor and check it.
Good luck

So how hard is it to retro fit one of these electric lockers into a IFS shorty? Been thinking about options for the future and if I found a rear end in good condition might grab it for later on. What other bits do you need to make these work?

Will they just bolt into place of the old diff head? If not how much modifying is required?

Have a read of the article in my post further up the page.
They are not a straight bolt in if you just swap diff heads.
But it is not too hard to do.
Took me about 3 days....
But going hard out with all the stuff ready you could do it in a day.
