As per usual when its time to go home, just go home the easy way.
Figured why take the easy track when I could drive down a hill through the bog and back up the other side. Thought should be a good test for the new front lock-right.
Of course didn't make it and ended up stuck in the bog at the bottom.
Figured try and turn downhill and drive down the gully.
Unfortunately Mr Farmer had left a big coil of fencing wire all wound up in the bog. It ended up being wrapped around the passenger side wheel until it jammed it solid. Before we found out it was there there was a bang. Stupid new front Lock-right.
Damage was broken CV, Hub, rounded end of axle, some dents on the inner housing and also to wrap things off the inner diff seal doesn't look to flash now either.
Looking for ideas please. Have read on the aussie forum that if wanting to fix CV issues replace the GQ with GU front end? Anyone looked at doing that? Thinking by the time I buy all those bits mighten be much more to buy a complete new diff?
Anyone got any GQ or GU bits lying around they want to part with??

Good luck finding a GU diff, very rare, and if you do find one, it'll be $$$$. I also doubt the GU diff would have been any better off in that situation anyway, just VERY bad luck.
Cheapest option for the diff would be the GQ replacement. What hubs were you using? I always preferred to use a lower quality hub so it was the weakest link. Would rather change a hub than cv.

Just the standard auto hubs. Should have added that to the questions, what hubs should I put on??

I think it was ORA hubs I used in the end, although many would probably disagree with running weak hubs.

Some photo evidence of the wire. (sorry about quality)
First picture is after we removed the wire that was actually around the wheel and then managed to tow it backwards up a hill

Wheel off now a real big mess to untangle, luckily one of the crew had some bolt cutters (not exactly sure why he does but very helpful)

Finally free from the mess

If your running an autolokka, you need manual hubs. You may need to also modify your driving style to save cv's. I had to.

Hey Stu, Steve Stewart just wrote off his Safari, hit a log on the beach doing 50k, totally f##k@d the truck, but hes bought another off Allan Jackson to make one out of 2. Might be able to scrounge some bits off him. Pete has done in a few CVs since putting in his auto locker and big tyres
