I am looking on heading up to the bombing ranges on muriwai on august 13/14th. I have a 93 TD27 auto terrano and its done me well. apart from sagging from torsions I'm fitting a aftermarket trans cooler up front today but am wondering what else would i need to make the trip?? We're taking a few more trucks along so getting stuck hopefully wont be a big deal but is there any other problems i may experience??? Any advice
just drop your tire pressure low and always inspect the big puddles as a few i thought looked quite shallow turned out to be up over the bonnet deep was lucky to get out of them without stopping,
I'd tell ya to avoid the range but like most other times Ive said it people just do it any way. Dont take souvineers (the 20mm heads will take a hand off and the bigger stuff wel...) and watch for sharp shrapnel.
Its a live bombing range and as such there is unexploded ordinance there. You've been warned and if you get caught inside the range then its your problem.
Been at the bombing range all day yesterday. Dont get lost out the back, give yourself time for the tide to let you back safely or youll be sitting in low range/ high revs heart racing as the waves roll in!
Theres sharp bits of old cars just poking out of the sand so just watch out for them. Lots of quick sand between the beach and the dunes, try stay on the lighter sandy coloured patches.
Have fun!
PS: The other blokes right, let your tyres down to around 20 at least- your truck will thank you for it.
and just to be a pain in the arse, the bombing range is technically closed to every one, all the time. whether the flag is up or not. But every one goes there anyway... so just be careful.
We were running our tyres at 8psi in the sand dunes up 90 Mile beach way, it makes it like driving on hard sand!!!!
Before you hit the beach for the day, drop to between 12 and 15psi, your truck will love you for it, and you'l look like Da Man when you idle over the soft sand that your mates just got stuck in!!!
Supercheap compressor for $150 will work well enough for airing back up if your patient!!!
