surf front diff

Post by Petemcc »

i have 91 4runner/surf, i have a blown diff in the garage and just got a new one really cheap on trade me yesterday. the new one is from an 86 though and doesnt have the add 4wd sysetem. My idea was to take the inside out of the 86 diff and put it in the casing of my old diff along with a locker. are they the same inside? will this work?

Cheers Pete

count the teeth on the crown wheel. make sure they are the same though.

When replacing the crown wheel youll have to reset the backlash between the the gears. feel what it is now and aim for that if you are going to do it by feel, front diffs shouldnt matter to much, otherwise get someplace with the equipment to set it right.
