Hi all,
Im trying to get a bit of info together for a friend as he is looking at trying to fit a H55 ex FJ60 into a BJ40.
I pointed out the bell-housings will be different and then i found there is a difference between the input shafts.. Is this right??
Is there an easier way?
Also he is looking at swapping the power-steering over any idea if the steering box's will fit?
I am Landcruiser illiterate LOL.. Gimmie a Hilux any day..

FJ's and BJ's have different input shafts, he'll have to find a H55F out of a 4 cylinder diesel with the long fine spline input shaft to fit his truck, the vacum actuator to engage 4wd sits out pretty wide, my FJ40 has had the inside of the drivers side chassis rail slotted and it sits just inside the chassis rail, the gearbox is also longer coz of the 5th gear so he'd have to alter the driveshaft lengths. His BJ40 should have a gearbox crossmember if its a post 1980, if its an earlier model he'll have to find a crossmember for it, I dunno if you have to move the crossmember or not to swap between 4 and 5 speed boxes, mines been shifted but its got a chevy in it and the engines been shifted further forward for firewall clearance.
60 or 70 series power steering is an easy conversion, theres a few threads with lots of info and pictures in the forum archives

I agree with Marty but not all 60 series are vaccuum transfer most are lever so you dont have to cut the chassis rail to fit. You can use the standard gearbox crossmember from the 60 series because it has more of a hoop in it for the driveshaft and leave it in the factory position in the 40. Trans tunnel cover needs to be cut and modified because the gearbox levers sit further back, driveshaft lenghts plus the gearbox may hit the lip on the fuel tank because of the extra lenght.
And the 60 power steer will go in with a few mods also
