well i was welding last weekend with my cebora 175 welder and after i finished welding 1 bead i put the gun down and cleaned up the next piece ready for welding (to give the welder a chance to cool down) and when i tryed welding the next bead it striked made a few sparks and killed the power to the lights and the radio ( which was the only thing on at the time) not too sure what the problem is. will have to get it checked out but thought id ask on here first to see what someone else thinks. the welder fan really slowed down too. hope someone knows a little more about welders than me and can shed some light on this problems.
cheers

Re: mig welder problems
I take it you blew the fuse in the house?
You may have overloaded the house circuit you were using....
Might pay to use another power point on its own circuit...
And see if it still works.
Or you welder has developed a fault and has blown the house fuse....

Re: mig welder problems
not likely related to your issue but on my old cebora It started doing weird things, cant remember what really but ended up cleaning the main switch gear on it and it came right. took cover of on left hand side blew out with air, sprayed with electrical cleaner and worked switch a dozen times and it came right. the big power setting switch has exposed contacts so prone to getting dirty.
worth a crack nothing to loose. your problem is more likely related to power supply to the machine. persevere a bit before handing money over to someone. CAREFULLY electricity bites

Re: mig welder problems
We had a welder in the garage and unless we put it on a 20A (might've been 30A)circuit it kept tripping the circuit breaker. We had a special higher current single phase outlet setup for the welder, from memory the welder was a 160A mig.
Re: mig welder problems
thanks all for input may have not made this clear enough, but i can run my big 200amp arc welder that will draw more power than the mig could ever do but when i plug the mig in it starts up fan works it strikes the arc and wire speed goes but it doesnt put a molten bead down. the welder is the model that hasnt got an on off switch just has a dial with power setting and wire speeds will have to pull it apart and see if anything has melted inside or some wires are not where they are supposed to be. i know what you are saying about power supply needing all i can get. it is plugged into a 20amp plug and it will only trip out the circuit breaker if i weld for about 5 mins nonstop with the arc welder at 150amps. hope this makes thing a bit more clear. thanks again for your input.

there should be diodes withen the machine, assuming it not a invertor mig, i would be checking these are working one way but not the other, it sounds like it has lost all current when welding.

Re: mig welder problems
ok thanks for that its not the diodes that hold electronic charge when the machine is turned off is it? was told once that a part in a welder can hold electricity and can zap u if you touch it just wonder if thats the one

nup the diodes will be the ones with a cable running to one end of it and they should be mounted to a ali plate or heat sink. the bits that bite are the capaciters, they are generally round canisters fairly large in a welder, even still use a meter not ya finger
