Replacing C.V's

Post by Drurban »

Hi All,

Just a quick question about C.V's, when I have had them replaced the mechanic has had to cut them out with air tool or some cutting device to get it out, is this a common thing or is this not what;s suppose to be done.

In my opinion I think is is right, from what I have been told once the C.V with the attached is out all it needs is a good wack with hammer and it is comes apart.

What are your opinion's on this.

Cheers

A trick I was taught once and quite often works is too hold the shaft by hand or in the vice vertically with the cv hanging hanging down of the end.and belt the end of the shaft. the weight of the cv is enough to slide it off. because there is no pressure against the circlip it dosnt jam and when the vibration travells down the shaft it intensly jiggles the circlp and the cv alowing the weight of the cv too gently push circlip in to its groove and cv slides off.

Are you replacing the whole thing (all the way into the diff)?
have your moved the outer clip?
