Im working on doing something about the massive number of stolen 4x4 in chch / canty area.
Could people who have had there truck or friends trucks stolen please PM me when it was stolen , rego number , where stolen from & the end result (recovered , dissapeared etc )Once we have some details we going to put some pressure on the Police & Politicians to put more resourses into doing something about this.

Wat your willing to do is great. Although being a owner of a nissan silvia also and being a member of silvia nz we have had this issues for years of our cars getting stolen. We have done wat u are wantinf to do with no outcome from the police, and that was with a policeman as amember. But good on ya for having a crack at is cos at end of day the more it gets put at the police the higher the chance of them listening. Keep up the great start

Hopefully by the end of this week you can check a plate/engine/vin/chassis number against the police stolen vehicle database on the police website. Punch in the plate and get an instant response. So if you see what you think is a stolen vehicle check it on your phone (via web) or want to know if that guys engine is stolen you can check it as well.

Its a step in the right direction. A lot of cars are getting stolen and taken to the scrap for $200 . Its now the responsibility of the scrappie to check if its stolen and if they don't they will get prosecuted!! The police are doing the best with the resources they have, the government has cut their budget and as a result things are going to suffer, including numbers of officers!

I think also that we should make it compulsory on this site that all number plates be edited out by posters of pictures and make it a rule as such to protect trucks from being tracked. Its common practise on other forums and would stop people targeting trucks on pics posted up by geniune members. Every little bit helps

hes onto it, in everyphotos ive posted ive tried to make it so u either cant see or the plate has been blanked. best thing to stop people, also not giving a away ur location away to much in ur profile eg christchurch not kiapoi

If you have gone to LTSA website & opted out people shouldnt be able to get your details from you number plate anymore.

done that but not everyone knows that site. i think hiding a number plate is the best option as you dont know weather thieves may have contacts. you've all seen the movies

If they want your truck they are just going to follow you home. There is virtually nothing you can do to sucure it, if they really want it.

If you want to catch them your going to have to set the bait , stake it out and catch them in the act.

Stickers advertising all your mods is a bad idea too.

And baiting them...wish we could get away with that in this country, i'm starting to think that it's the only way to stop the mongrels, all these vehicles being stolen on purpose has been way out of hand for far too long!!

Can't remember the last time I told this story but my Terrano was stolen back in 1998-99ish. Never got recovered as far as I know - I never heard anything anyway.

I rang the cops and was GUTTED that they didn't think it important enough to attend in person..."give us the details and we'll let you know if anything turns up" (insert Tui add here).

Anyway...I was telling the insurance people this and they (AMI) said that on that particular Friday night when mine was flogged around 18 cars had been stolen and that was just within the Christchurch city area and just AMI alone (didn't include other insurance companies).

They said ChCh was second only to Auckland and it was catching up fast!
That was over 10 years ago.

you'd think the insurance companies would be putting pressure on government/police to try and sort some of this. maybe be worth contacting http://www.icnz.org.nz/ as well .
