KZJ78 Rear storage makeover

Post by kbushnz »

Now that I have moved to 35 inch tyres, I ended up putting the spare in the rear of the cabin...
After a few months of not having a heavy wheel on the door and unobstructed views out the rear windows....(Even the 5 year old can now open the doors) I have decided to revamp the storage layout in the back of the Prado..
A few years back I made up a vertical set of drawers which fitted over the wheel hump on the left side.

I used fish bins for the drawers... Works great...
Using the same idea I have decided to have the spare lay down on the floor with the drawers above...

Its one big board attached to angle sections.
The fish bins will then be boxed in which will give it some rigidity and hold the bins. Then finally covered.
The old cardboard side trims have made way for alloy sheets and the press button locations have been drilled out and replaced with riv nuts..

Still working on where to place them, like to have one drawer which will open when only the little door is ajar..
Will look at two large fish bins and an open area big enough to strap down a chilly bin...
Will post more as it takes shape...

Note the old drawers are no longer required and I am open to offers. They are made from fibreglass honeycomb floor boards as used in aircraft.
Nice and light and water doesn't worry it....
Bolt into existing rear seat locations.
