Driveline breathers

Post by 3VILC »

I read on another forum that the Hilux gearbox (YN67) breathes via the shifter, is this correct? I cant see a breather on the box anywhere unless im not looking hard enough. I assume that the box and transfer share the same oil supply and breathe thru the same place. So an extended breather project is just the diffs?

Cheers,
Clive

if you take the shifter out , 4 12mm bolts, youll see a small 12mm o/d cap by about 16mm high , grab some pliers and pop it off and a small spring will come out too, just wack some hose and a hose clamp on and bring it up to the highest point oyu can

Ok so whipped the front one out to try and unclog it (thinking this was probably not helping the leaking axle seals), was like it when I got it, think the seller mustve done the dodgy and given everything a good wipe over so i couldnt see the oil trails (theres a tui ad here "we just changed the diff oils, yeah right") .. annnyway where was I, yup pulled the breather, and theres grey oily sludge under there, yay a good sign of water.. not entirely sure I want to pull the bungs out for a nosey now :| hopefully drop the oil, clean it all out, do the seals, and no major damage.. at least dreams are free
