Rotorua Winch Challenge

Post by Clint »

Who else is a starter for this? I'm winch bitch for Klem (Telexs) - once he gets his hilux back together - we've got a week now to sort out about a months worth of jobs on it so it should be sweet as :D

It'll be our 1st go at a winch challenge so expect plenty of entertainment.

Cheers

Winch challenge

Post by Jungle »

Hey Clint.

Just a note about the challenge.

Its not speactator friendly. We not even allowed media filiming this year. Thats after we organised some coverage. Damn damn damn.

Other than that its great to have you along. Will catch you on Friday or Thursday night. They having a few scrutineers on Thursday night to get through them all. Think we have a few too many competitors this year.

All good.

The situation with this event is the land access is private forestry land.

Its hard enough to get access for this sort of event without the drama of shepherding hundreds of spectators and trying to gaurantee there safety at all times. We have to jump through many hoops to have this access and are not keen on losing it due to the unpredictabilty of Joe Bloggs.

Hope that answers your query.

Best regards

I would have thought this would have been crusial as this is what keeps the sponsers happy!!

I can understand the issues with general admition and forest access when I was with the MTB club we had to have firecrews, ambulances firstaiders etc etc etc but for us to get the cammera crews we needed the public  a catch 22  and big insurance

Yeah I guessed as much. Its just a sad fact that we cant even see it on camera because I really do like seeing those winch trucks hence why I try to get up for marshalling every year. Imagine the popularity of the sport if there were crowds like the rallys get! But with the rallys you see the car for like 2 seconds as it zooms past at 200km/hr at least with a winch truck it screams past slowely. if that makes sense  One day I'll enter it the LR so I can watch

We usually have video coverage for this event. We had organised it but due to forest company trying to sell its forest, they don't want any bad publicity.

There is a way in for you boys though. We need some pit girls, so bring your hot pants.. ha ha ha ha. Just kidding. If you can hook up with a competing truck and be there support crew or tyre pressure gauge holder. What ever you can cope with. As long as you are not increasing the numbers of vehicle we are already trying to control.

Hope that helps.

I have told Clintin to leave his hot pants at home , now that you have some one else to wear them , I am sure he will still wear his bright hawaiian shirt , We did try and get the red bull girls to pit crew for us but not too keen

I so understand. Once you get that gritty mamaku mud in your hot pants it all over. Clint could wear a full body suit. That would keep the mud out and be stream line too.

Ooohh I was going to wear my red floral lycra leotard darling, but it would clash horribly with the blue hilux, & my designer hasn't got the mauve paisley spandex bodysuit finished, I'll have to call up the "country's most respected 4wd journalist" for some advice on what to wear...

Bit of a bugger about not having any media for the guys trying to keep the sponsors happy but at least none of our stoopidity will be recorded :P

See ya next week

Woo Hoo! That was a bit of fun. :D Congrats to Sam & Bruce on the win & thanks to all the Geyserland boys for laying on a great event. We had a few breakages & DNFs but our support crew got everything fixed each time & we started every stage. When everything worked it worked really well. I'll get some pics up later in the week.

Cheers

The above was within 5 m of the finish box, plan A of winching ourselves into the box on our side didn't work but we did get on our feet & managed to finish a few seconds before DNF time.
