4wd Wanted

Post by pouw »

Hi guys

I am in the market for a new 4wd, willing to spend up to $3k cash.

Requirements.
Either warranted and registered OR an A frame attached for towing behind the bounty.

Does not have to be modified, factory or close to it is perfectly fine as I have no problem with starting a project, modifying it to suit. Of course any modifications would be enjoyed, but basically I am looking for a truck I can get out and enjoy i.e driveable without needing anything urgently fixed like clutch, supension, steering etc :)

Any mileage/age considered though would prefer it to have had some sort of maintenance and be running correctly. Bodywise, my dream would be tidy, but I accept that there is likely to be some rust, just not great gaping holes of it.

Types of vehicles I am interested in:
Fuel type - doesnt matter
Suzuki - 413, 410, Vitara/Escudo
Mitsubishi Pajero - doesnt matter the year.
Landrover - series 1, 2 or 3.
Toyota - Landcruiser (Ha ha like I will get one for this price)
Daihatsu - Rocky/Feroza/Rugger

Look forward to any ideas you might have and cheers in advance for any help getting me into my next offroad truck - will be used to go on the beach, red rocks, Akatarawas etc.

Hi Taz, yep I saw you were selling a safari and it does look good, my only question is around the clutch work required (no mechaincal experience here yet except really basic stuff) to get it running and WOF work, unless it would tow ok on an A frame. Actually you are probably the right one to ask, what would it roughly cost to A frame a vechicle?

Cheers for the reply - Actually went and looked at this one last week - cool wagon but not sure on the 202 engine and the work required. Might be a bit out of my level of ability.

Hi John, you came to my rescue when I was looking and asking about iPad verse Laptop , we ended up with iPad 2, 3G - 64g - all the bells, had it 8 months and suits our purpose --- great. Now how can I help you  .
3K is a bit on the light side for what your asking ,,,, but may get you out on the track. You should have got Hosehustlers Surf he just sold. The Landy on TM; could be OK for your price bracket, don't worry about the old 202 providing there is nothing serious wrong with it --- and I doubt there would be ---- they are easy to work on and once set up you should have no troubles 8) , Landrover running gear on the other hand is ----- shell we say BRITISH  , and we will say designed to keep trades people employed, but driven with a bit of compassion for the old girl could be OK, you will get used to looking at the underneath side of the old girl with grease and oil under your finger nails  . I don't like the look of the :? we won't call it a roll cage, I wouldn't want to be in it to try it out, might stand up to a I'm tired and going to have a lay down. Any 4wheeling is going to require maintenance and cost ya, but might as well spend it on that as

PISS IT AGAINST THE WALL

FITZY.

Heya, thanks for the reply. I have actually had this on my radar for a bit as it looks like it could serve the purpose. Just asked the guy selling it if I can go and have a look :) JP

Ask tu's about the 202, hes pretty good at breaking stuff, and hasnt been able to brake the 202 in his landy. Its had oil in it that resembles cream cheese for the last 6 months and still wont give up the ghost. As for everything else yea hiff the landy running gear and slap some yota axles under it

Bought the pajero in my post further up. Flew to Napier, took it for a blast and got it for $2700. Loving the V6 power again, and the manual gearbox is smooth as silk.

Things he didnt mention - front and rear recovery hooks, suspension lift - bonus.

All I need now is a cheap second hand set of muddies but the AT's on it will be good enough for a bit.

Cheers for your advice guys :)
