gearbox swap

Hi all, could anyone please tell me whether a 92 2.5 diesel gearbox would be compatible with an 89 3ltr petrol 6G72? The reason I ask is I have an 89 pajero and the 2nd and 3rd gears are poked constantly grinding etc.. and I have a 92 pajero (de-reged) sitting in the garage and am thinking about a gearbox swap instead of having the current one rebuilt.
