Had a quick seach but couldnt find anything relevant tho I'm sure it would be there somewhere. Just got a bit of a budget build YN67 and wanting to get a bit more movement mostly down travel out of the suspension as the factory shocks dont allow for much. Roughly how low can you go before the standard drag link reaches its limit? I did notice this when I took the front springs out but forgot to make a note of it. As mentioned is only a budget build so dont expect massive flex or wish to do a x-over or histeer setup at this stage or use those expensive dropped drag links.
Cheers guys

About the only option for longer shocks on a budget is late 80's early 90's falcon/comadore rear shocks... pin/eye so they will bolt in you shouldn't loose too much up travel but they will have alot more drop
As for the torque arm ontop of the diff don't play with it unless you are putting lifted springs in (it is matched to the drag link on your steering and is there to stop bump steer) anyway it will limit drop on the drivers side but you should still get more than before and passanger side should drop to what the springs will let the axle drop to
Now there is a catch the valving in these is light so there will be a change in road maners
Cheers Reece

Re: Solid axle lux steering
Ok, so i've had bit of a play and measure up. Now I can kindof rephrase my question. With the shock disconnected, what would be the next thing to limit downtravel? Since im not convinced it is the draglink that is at maximum angle.
So far, measured on the shock mounts from center of bottom eye to top shock shoulder as a convenient place to measure, i get about 420mm maximum extension with the shock connected, and only around 20mm more with the shock disconnected. Surely I should get more drop than that with a solid axle although someone please correct me if im chasing red herrings
Not much point getting any longer shocks or shackles if the axle will still only move this much.
If my original theory is correct and the draglink ball joints are maxing out then I suppose theres no simple solution other than to do a half histeer and cut the J arm off and bolt another drivers side steering arm on top. doubt the WOF man would like that tho lol.
Rant over..ideas welcome

thats easy.... the leafsprings, the leaves cant stretch they only compress and extend through their cycle, your down travel is when they have entended down untill they have pulled the shackle right around
Re: Solid axle lux steering
The torque rod will also limit the droop if you are just jacking it up
Re: Solid axle lux steering
Yeah, they really are crap unknown origin springs that seem way to heavy duty even after taking a leaf out the rear of the pack is very think all the bend seems to come from only the front. Going to try suss another pair of less knackered leaves. I believe the 60 series also had heavier springs on the diesel models. I've seen a 60 series surf on standard springs that flexes way more so must be possible. Its another project thrown in the to do when the money tree grows bigger lol. 2 kids is the reason for a bit of a cheaper project than my old safari that i can still play offroad in
