Use a surf IFS power steering box. What type of rear axle do you have? a semi floater or a full.

Welcome BTW :)

I think the 70 series stuff is the usual way to do the conversion, power steer pump bolts straight onto the 2F head and mount the 70 steering box onto the front of the chassis rail

I'm in the process of helping Niblik with his 40 series conversion. Fitting 60 series diffs, power steer etc. We are also fitting discs to the rear so if you aren't in any great hurry to get this done we can give you info, pics etc when we are finished. Hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks. We intend on using hilux rotors and galant calipers.

40 series ful floaters and 60 series ones are different unfortunately. H20, are you putting the disc on the front of the hub, or securing it to the back with the studs? I machined the outside of the hub so the disc would slide over the front. The inside of the disc also needs machining to slide on.

We have only started on this and are in the process of getting the inside of the disc machined. What/how much needs to come off the outside of the hub? I'm pretty sure Nibliks going to slide the disc on from the front. Do we need to get longer studs? If you've already done this do you have pics? What caliper would you recommend using or is the Galant a good pick (others have suggested this caliper but always keen for options)

Can remember how much needed to come off the hub. We took some off the disc, and then figured out that we needed to take some off the bit where the studs go into. Measured it up, took it off in the lathe and there was heaps of meat left on the outside.
Studs are plenty long enough because the drum used to have to slide on. I am using galant calipers, but if they are not powerful enough, ill use them as fiddle brakes. If they are powerful enough ill leave them, and figure out how im going to do the fiddles.

Heres a couple of crap pics.

Its kind of hard to see, but there is a step that needs milling to get the disc to sit right.

In this one you can see a really crap pic of the bracket. You cant see it, but you have to mill that rounded step into the bracket. I have this on mine. I might be able to get some extra pics tonight if required.

You do need a very small spacer between the bracket and the caliper to get the caliper on properly. A washer would probably do.

So you have mounted your caliper off two of the housing bolts not four? We are getting a piece of plate cut out that will allow us to use all four bolts. Overkill? probably but when it comes to brakes you can't be to careful, specially when it has to visit certifiers (probably in about 2 years time at current rate of progress  sorry Nibby :D  )
Have you used your set up yet? or are you still building? would be keen to see how good those calipers work. I presume they have a handbrake attachment? I'm using Nibbys as a gineau pig, i want to do the same sort of thing to my 70 but will let him make all the fabrication mistakes and then copy him once all the niggles are sorted

na, it not under there yet. Another good few weeks before the rover will even look like its rolling  .

4 bolts are better than 2, but I intend on running dual calipers, and would rather not weld to the housing.

Galants do have the handbrake attachment.

Also my mounts are made out of 10mm steel and use 12mm bolts to hold it on to the housing. Im not sure ther'll be any strength issues there.
