2.7 fuel economy

Post by Butters »

Hi all,

Just wondering what kind of economy those of you with a 2.7 are getting.

Recently my truck got about 7-8 km/l (~14 l/100km) with a mixture of open road and town, and a generally sedate driving style.

This seems pretty uneconomical, but it's my first diesel so i'm not sure.

If this is really bad i would appreciate any suggestions about how i might improve things.

There is no secondary mesh fuel filter in the pump.
The glow plugs are worn/maybe the battery - has trouble starting on cold mornings .
It has a miss around 2000 RPM on the open road.
Diagnostics indicates a high voltage level associated with the fuel pump, was told this means the fuel pump is worn.
I've done filter and oil changes.

Cheers :)

That's about what I'm getting in a 95 Terrano td27 auto.
Did Auckland to turangi with kayaks on the roof and a weekends gear in the back at 8.3km/L last weekend...

My best figures have been 10.2km/litre open road only (quite a bit of hill country too) with 92 Terrano TD27 maunal. Around town my economy is usually around the 8.5km/litre mark. It's been a little better since installing the 2.5" exhaust.
2008 R51, 2.5TD. 265/70R17 R/T's, 1.5" Rancho lift, Ironman snorkel and Deluxe winch bar, SCA 12,000lb winch and 9" LED spotlights, Kings awning, Alpinestar roof box, GME TX3100 UHF.

Very similar to me hilly country up here, so both 1994 TD27 Terrano, and Mistral I would get around 9.9 - 10.0 litres/100km going down to Tauranga I could get it down to around 8.4
