temp rise because heater use?

hi there, i notice that my engine temp will rise a lil bit if i use heater (for about 20 seconds) and then it will get back to normal level after a while. i post before about the same problem but i try to check it in few condition and i realise that it will only rise if heater is use when driving slowly around town. dont think i need new thermostat when the thermostat is anew one, just got it last month. any idea everyone?? :?:

Do you have the Air con on when you turn the heater on?

The water flows through the heater core all the time, when you turn the heater on it is only turning the fan on or off, so it may be a faulty gauge or electrical problem.

If the a/c is on then it may be a partialy blocked radiator that doesnt show a fault untill the extra heat load coming off the condenser pushes up the temp.

I would remove the radiator and get it check to make sure its not blocked.

o/heating faults are allways a pain in the arse

well, it was blocked before, but has been cleaned twice last month... first time it was blocked, flushed out all but unluckily from that blockage, have to get a new head gasket coz i burn it! so, replace the head gasket and again flush it all... do u think it is still blocked? any idea?? :?:

the temp rise is not dat much, just like 3mm higher than half, then it goes down. let say, from scale 1 to 10, at normal, it will be at scale 4 but if switch on the heater, it rise to scale 6 slowly(around 20 seconds), and quickly after reach scale 6, in ~3seconds, it goes back to normal. if i travel for 80km that day, it just happen once just after i start my car and will not happen again. sometimes it doesnt rise at all.

Did you do both head gaskets or just 1?
If you did them both you should be ok. I would think the radiator will be allright if its been done allready.
Make sure the thermostat is working properly and the fan is working too, check for any air in the cooling system.

Probs like these are generally allways somthing simple :lol:

Hiya guys! thanks for the reply, really appreciate that. newbie like me really need help! hahaha... well aaron, i have done both head gasket... wot do u mean by check air in the cooling system? is it 'bleeding' the radiator? i try to do it, by it seems like i will spill some of the anti freeze. i open the radiator cap, start the engine and shuld wait until it reach the working temperature right? while waiting, it seems like i will spill quite some of the anti-freeze. thank guys! hey sadam, maybe u rite? no prob at all... :?:

need assurance, worry if i burn the head gasket one more time :lol:

Im not sure about the 3.0's but the 3.5 V6's have a bleed bolt for air in the system on top of the thermostat housing. I daresay the 3.0's will have the same.

As far as getting ratiators looked at, if you are in doubt, take the radiator out and take it to a specialist who will take the top and bottom off it and clean it out. They then tell ya how much it was blocked - often way more than you'd think.

?? I may be wrong but I don't think the water does flow all the time..... As you turn the heat up the more the valve opens to let water in to the heater radiator box thingamijig.

Heater taps went out with HQ holdens and landrovers,

all jap stuff runs the hotwater from the engine through the heater core all the time.
When you turn the heater to cold it moves a flap that makes the incoming air bypass the heater core so it doesnt get heated.
Much better system and no heater tap to leak or seize up

heya everyone, i think its normal. would anyone try to drive around town and see if ur temperature level ever shoot up a little bit? my friends car are like that too. this thing happen quite fast really, sometimes u dont even realize it. correct me if im wrong :lol:

there is a heater tap on 3000 v6 but it is a bitch to get to dash out radio consol out when you get in there you have to remove heater box and split it in half by undoing spring clips then you can get at valve

one other thing you could try disconect heater hoses at bulk head and reverse flush heater rad found that did trick on missis mitzi v6
and no there is no bleed valve on 3000 v6 take return heater hose off and block hose fill till water comes through reconect hose leave loose till no air bubbles and tighten hose she should be sweet as
