Now heres a little story of my effort today.
I purchased a 2nd hand LSD diff center of trademe many many months ago. Today I decided I would pop into work and change my diffs over, as I only have an open center in the back.
Dissasembled the LSD just to make sure it was in worthy condition, it was.
Jack up truck, remove wheels, calipers, and slide axles out (mistake should have been avoided here)
Removed drive shaft, undid diff head and removed.
Messured and marked all needed bits.
Disasembled the open diff. As was hoping to use original carrier, but with LSD centers (we do this all the time on bigger trucks at work) but they werent compatible.
At this point I noticed that the splines appeared ever so slightly different sizes, so I tried the LSD onto the axle. DOH!! Didnt fit! Splines appear to be about 1mm smaller on the LSD. My truck (96 Safari Spirit 2.8T) has 33mm spline.
There lay my problem.
So I had to fit the original open diff back into my truck. Refit the axles etc.
If only I had tried the LSD onto the axle when I first removed it I would have been much better off. I still would have had a useless open diff still in there, but I wouldnt have wasted all that time.
Has anyone else come across this?
Is the LSD maybe not from a Safari?
Does anyone have a LSD they may consider selling to a cheap'o? (hey, my missus is the cheap'o)
Any ideas, other than buying a locker, which I do want!
