N/A inj. pump on a T/A injectors.....HELP!

Post by R_ace-link »

Hey Guys,

It's been awhile since I've visited the site. but I Got a little trouble with the TD27eti.
I had the YD25 swapped with the TD27eti engine. But I replaced the TD27eti injector pump with the Manual N/A Injector pump. ( hate those electric things).
So had the Inj. pump set a little advanced and turned the fuel screw 3/4 turn.
Was happy with the setup. But I had to do a head gasket replacement.
So I thought ...Okay I'm gonna get the injectors tested since I'm doing the head. ( wanted to know if the burst pressure was right)

got someone to do the injectors. he up'd the pressure from ( I believe )
95Psi to 115psi. ( don't have the manual with me)
now when I start the engine it idles like it's running on 3 cylinders and smoking alot too. mostly greyish/white smoke. I advanced the inj. pump more and retarded it , I turned the fuel screw back a half turn, but it still runs very rough(still like running on 3 cylinder).

what do I have to do? Do I have to lower the injector burst pressure back to what it was ( was running sweet then).
Can't the N/A injector pump build the pressure to lift the injector needle with the new burst pressure????

REMINDER :!:
It's a N/A injector Pump with turbo aspirated injectors.

hope someone can help me with my issue.
I really love the TD engine. So I'm kind of pissed I can't find the problem.

Reg,

Hey mate, that sounds to me more like a glow plug issue.

Does it run fine when warm?

Cheers

Does it run bad like that both engine hot and cold?
Why did headgasket need to be done? I take it that the injectors were done at the same time head was off?
And did you do all work yourself, or have it in at a shop?
Usually na pump vs turbo is that it doenst have the aneriod, so na will pump in more fuel at lower rpm than turbo pump which limits fuel until boost is there.
So shouldn't have a huge influence of how engine runs other than pumping black smoke(and overheating EGTs) at lower rpms.
Can you crack each injector in turn and see if 1 cylinder is down? And maybe a compression test to see how thats going?

I'd also reccomend fitting some clear line to fuel line at pump to check theres no air bubbles in fuel. That can make engine run poor and rough and smokey. May be worth checking before doing too much other stuff as its a pretty easy check to do
Hope this helps.
I'm having issues with my rd28 thats prooving to stump me. So I'm learning as much as I can to try fix it ;-). just don't have a lot of spanner time to spend on it as yet grrr
Keep us up to date with what you find,

thanks for the reply,

but this is what I did after I read the info:

Bought new heaterplugs.
Took the injectors to be re-adjusted to 100psi (I think it whas PSI  )
The injector pump fully advanced.
Fuel screw turned up a full turn ( so it's now 2 rotation up, from standard setting).

Idles better now, but still having miss firing and shaking ( not so violently as before) and smoking ( not that much smoke though).

right now can't drive it to get compression tested, but before the H/G replacement it was fine. only when cold it was a little hard to start and had a little stutter till it was hot after a minute.

any more advice guys?
having my hands in my hair

I had this problem ages ago with my terrano, turned out it was dirty fuel, had to get the fuel tank and fuel lines cleaned out

Check the fuel filter and also look for any signs of diesel bug.

also a good time to check for water.

best bet is to undo the bung from the bottom of the tank (if it has one) and let some drain into a clear container.

Also drain the fuel out after the filter to make sure that any dirty fuel isnt getting past it.

Hope this helps, keen to see good progress

I'm s**t out of luck guys
the heads cracked. ain't that a bit**.
Now In my country there aren't much of those engines lying around.
and those scrap yard that do have them, are the ones which are cracked.
So right now the pick-up is gonna sit for a long long long long looooonnggg time.

hey I found Td27t heads on ebay.
but what is the difference?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nissan-TD27-T-D ... 3a6b23110d

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nissan-TD27-T-C ... 43ab21d754

20 - 24mm injector.????

which size do I have and how do you measure it.
Do I have to take it out and measure the nozzle?
Mine's the TD27eti with top mount intercooler. don't know which year it came out of???

or if it's the Mistral or Terrano1 or Terrano11????

it did idle better when warm, so I think it's the head.
I'm gonna pull it off again and pressure test it.
I'm not sure if it is the head that's cracked or the gasket failed.
the gasket is a asbest type. original was the metal gasket.
could be that. I hope.

or I have to get 1 from ebay
